Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President, has made it clear that he will not contest the presidency or any other elective office in the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, he categorically stated that he is not running for president in 2027.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a formidable force in Nigerian politics, according to Saraki. He dismissed claims that the party is "dead and buried" as largely driven by disagreements among party elites rather than the reality at the grassroots.
In Kwara State, Saraki noted that feedback from stakeholders and grassroots members continues to show strong loyalty to the PDP. He also addressed internal party matters, revealing that he initially opposed the PDP convention held in Ibadan but later allowed delegates from Kwara State to participate after assurances that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be present to ensure legitimacy.
However, Saraki expressed disappointment that INEC did not attend the convention, which he believed should have been halted under such circumstances. He also denied rumours of considering defection to the All Progressives Congress or any other platform, reaffirming his commitment to the PDP.
