**POWA Takes New Leap with IGP's Wife as President**
In a significant development for the families of Nigeria's police personnel, Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Mutiat Disu has taken office as the 23rd indigenous President of the Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA). With a bold vision to transform the lives of police families, Mrs. Disu has unveiled a comprehensive five-point agenda that prioritizes welfare, empowerment, and unity.
At the handover ceremony, Mrs. Disu emphasized the critical role police wives play in supporting their spouses as they secure the nation. "In our homes, we are the pillars that hold everything together," she said, highlighting the sacrifices made by police families in the line of duty. "While our husbands protect the nation, we preserve the home and secure the future."
Under her leadership, POWA will focus on creating safe spaces for police families to address mental health concerns, provide economic empowerment through skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training, and promote education and youth development. The association will also bridge gaps across commands, ensuring that every member feels recognized and valued.
Mrs. Disu's administration has identified several areas of focus, including mental health support, economic empowerment, education and youth development, national unity, and strengthened welfare systems. "Our mission is to create a supportive and inclusive community where police wives and families are emotionally strengthened, economically empowered, and united across all commands with dignity for every member," she said.
As she begins her tenure, Mrs. Disu has paid tribute to her predecessor, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, acknowledging the outgoing president's efforts in expanding welfare initiatives, empowerment programmes, and educational support. "We do not come to replace her legacy; we come to build upon it," she said.
With a rallying cry of "United in Strength, Empowered for Impact," Mrs. Disu has called on members to actively participate in the association's programmes and contribute ideas that will strengthen support systems for police families. As POWA embarks on this new journey, Nigerians can expect to see positive changes in the lives of police families across the country.
