IGP Disu seeks improved collaboration between police, journalists
**IGP Disu Seeks Better Collaboration Between Police, Journalists**
In a commendable move, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called for improved collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the media. This call was made during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council Congress in Abuja, where he praised journalists for their role in keeping the public informed and supporting national development.
According to the IGP, his relationship with the media is built on mutual respect and professionalism. He emphasized that journalists should be treated as respected professionals, rather than being seen as beggars seeking favors. Disu acknowledged the vital role the media plays in shaping public discourse and ensuring accountability, and urged for a stronger partnership between the police and the media.
A healthy collaboration between the police and the media, he said, would lead to increased public trust and effective communication on security matters. The police chief also urged both police officers and journalists to conduct themselves responsibly, as good conduct leaves a lasting positive impression on society.
The NUJ-FCT Council chairperson, Grace Ike, welcomed the IGP's call for collaboration, expressing confidence in his leadership and the readiness of journalists to work with the police in reporting security matters objectively. Ike reaffirmed the council's commitment to responsible journalism and support for initiatives aimed at strengthening security and good governance in the FCT.
This call for improved collaboration between the police and the media is a welcome development, especially as Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges. A stronger partnership between the two entities could lead to more effective communication, increased public trust, and a safer Nigeria.
