Gunna Sues Promoters Over Unpaid $750,000 X Games Performance Fee
American rapper Gunna has filed a lawsuit alleging that concert promoters deceived him into performing at this year’s X Games without paying his agreed fee.
According to reports by Billboard, the lawsuit was filed on Tuesday and seeks to recover a performance fee of $750,000 (£560,000), along with additional damages for fraud, breach of contract, and civil conspiracy.
Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, claims he agreed to perform at the January 22 event in Aspen based on assurances that a company known as Mickle and Mickle Productions would pay him $500,000. The agreement reportedly included a clause stating that failure to make payment on the same day would attract an additional $250,000 fee.
However, the payment was allegedly never made.
“No sponsorship funds, stakeholder funds, parade funds, commodity funds, or other third-party funding source referenced by defendants was ever secured, encumbered or deployed to satisfy plaintiff’s contractual entitlement,” Gunna’s lawyers stated in the filing.
The lawsuit also raises questions about the legitimacy of Mickle and Mickle Productions, with the rapper’s legal team claiming they have been unable to locate any official business registration for the company.
“The conduct described above reflects a coordinated scheme,” the complaint reads.
The “Drip Harder” singer is bringing claims against Mickle and Mickle Productions as well as another promotion company, Stars in Action.
The X Games event itself has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the lawsuit.
