**Kidnapping Rocks Ebonyi State: Former Deputy Governor's Father Abducted on His Way to Church**
A chilling case of kidnapping has unfolded in Ebonyi State, leaving many in the community shaken. On March 1, 2026, Francis Igwe, the father of former Deputy Governor Dr. Kelechi Igwe, was taken away by armed men while on his way to church in the Ndufu-Alike community.
Eyewitnesses report that the kidnappers, who were on motorcycles, intercepted Igwe's vehicle and forcibly removed him. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for swift action to be taken to secure the elderly man's release.
In a swift response, local authorities and the police have joined forces to locate and rescue Igwe. The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Sunday Nwankwo, has assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure Igwe's safe return.
The Ebonyi State Police Command has also issued a statement confirming the kidnapping and assuring the public that their men are on the ground, tracking the kidnappers and working to secure Igwe's release.
This latest incident comes on the heels of a similar case in the state just a few months ago, when a top aide to Governor Francis Nwifuru was kidnapped. In that case, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N30 million in exchange for the aide's release.
The recent wave of kidnappings in Ebonyi State has raised concerns about the safety and security of residents, particularly in rural areas. It is imperative that the authorities take swift and decisive action to bring an end to this reign of terror and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
As the search for Igwe continues, the people of Ebonyi State remain hopeful that he will be reunited with his family soon.
