Daddy Mukadi, chairperson of the GSMA Africa Policy Group and chief regulatory officer at Airtel Africa, has called for urgent tax reforms across African governments to accelerate digital inclusion. Speaking in a statement released on Wednesday, Mukadi stressed the need to reposition telecommunications infrastructure to support broader access to digital services. He noted that current tax policies in many African countries hinder investment in network expansion and increase the cost of devices for consumers. Mukadi highlighted that reducing taxes on mobile handsets and waiving levies on infrastructure deployment could significantly improve connectivity. He said digital inclusion is critical to unlocking the continent's digital economy and ensuring equitable access to services such as education, healthcare and financial tools. Mukadi urged policymakers to prioritise reforms that support affordable internet access and long-term sector growth.
