Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has flagged off the distribution of N350 million interest-free loans to 1,000 residents of the state. The loans are part of a World Bank-backed initiative aimed at empowering small business clusters across Kwara communities and strengthening grassroots economies.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, the beneficiaries were drawn from various community interest groups and each received N25 million. The Kwara State Agro-Clomatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, powered by the World Bank, is the brainchild behind the initiative.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely and repay them promptly to enable others to benefit. He noted that the programme is a practical step towards reducing poverty in the state.

The event, which took place in Ilorin, was attended by senior government officials, community leaders, market women, and various support groups. The Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of the ACReSAL Steering Committee, Hon. Nafisat Musa Buge, echoed the governor's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of responsible use and repayment of the funds.

The Kwara ACReSAL project has also provided potable water to some rural communities in the state, further underscoring the governor's commitment to inclusive development and shared prosperity.
