**Nigeria's 2027 General Elections: New Dates Unveiled**
Get ready, Nigerians. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the revised schedule for the 2027 general elections. The move comes after the Electoral Act, 2022 was repealed and replaced with the Electoral Act, 2026, which introduced changes to the timelines governing pre-election and electoral activities.
**A New Timeline for Nigeria's Elections**
The Commission has adjusted the dates for the elections to ensure full compliance with the new electoral law. The Presidential and National Assembly Elections will now hold on Saturday, 16th January 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections will take place on Saturday, 6th February 2027.
**Key Deadlines for Political Parties**
To ensure a smooth process, INEC has outlined key milestones in the revised timetable. Party primaries will commence on 23rd April 2026 and end on 30th May 2026. Presidential and National Assembly campaigns will kick off on 19th August 2026, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly campaigns will begin on 9th September 2026. As provided by law, campaigns will end 24 hours before Election Day.
**Osun State Governorship Election Rescheduled**
The Osun State Governorship Election, initially fixed for Saturday, 8th August 2026, has been rescheduled to Saturday, 15th August 2026. While some activities for the Ekiti and Osun Governorship Elections have already been conducted, the remaining activities will now be implemented strictly in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
**A Call to Action for All Stakeholders**
INEC has called on all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections that reflect the sovereign will of the Nigerian people. The Commission emphasizes that the successful conduct of the forthcoming elections is a collective responsibility. With the revised dates in place, Nigerians can now look forward to a well-organized and democratic process.
