Fresh crisis as ADC asks court to stop Ireti Kingibe as member
**ADC Crisis: Fresh Tussle Over Ireti Kingibe's Membership**
A fresh controversy has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the party seeks to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from claiming membership. The Wuse ward of the ADC, where the senator is also a member, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain her from parading herself as a member of the party.
This development comes just 48 hours after the senator was suspended indefinitely by the party's executive committee in the Wuse ward. The move has sparked a heated debate within the ADC, with the party's leadership in the ward insisting that they have the constitutional authority to discipline and suspend members within their jurisdiction.
The ADC has filed a lawsuit through its lawyer, Maxwell Opara, seeking an order to prevent Kingibe from claiming membership while her suspension remains in place. The party is also asking the court to affirm that the suspension of the senator is valid and subsisting.
The plaintiffs in the suit, which include the Chairman and Secretary of the Wuse Ward Executive Committee, argue that Kingibe cannot lawfully claim membership while her suspension is in effect. They are also seeking a declaration that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ADC should not recognize Kingibe as a party member at any level during the period of her suspension.
This latest development is a testament to the ongoing power struggles within the ADC and other political parties in Nigeria. As parties grapple with internal conflicts, the question of membership and leadership remains a contentious issue. The outcome of this lawsuit will undoubtedly have significant implications for the ADC and its leadership in the FCT.
