In a major breakthrough in the fight against rural crimes, the Oyo State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with a recent cattle rustling incident in Ado-Awaye, Iseyin Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspects were arrested in a swift response to a distress call from residents of the area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, March 13, 2026, when armed hoodlums invaded the camp of a cattle owner, identified as Yahaya, at the Iserin area via Ado-Awaye and made away with his cows.
The police received a distress call from Muhammad Ibrahim of the Igbojaye area, who reported the incident. Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ado-Awaye Division mobilised a joint team of police operatives and local security partners, including vigilantes, to the scene.
The coordinated response led to the interception of the suspects, who were attempting to load the rustled cattle into a white Mazda bus with registration number KMA 178 ZY. The bus was allegedly driven by Sekooni Wale, 30, while Jimoh Toheeb, 25, was the motor boy.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Moshood Abdullahi, 38, who is a notorious cattle rustler from Badagry. His arrest subsequently led to the apprehension of another accomplice, Macho Sindi, 29.
The police command has commended the swift response of its operatives and local security partners, which led to the successful recovery of the rustled cattle and the arrest of the suspects. This breakthrough is seen as a major victory in the fight against rural crimes and a testament to the commitment of the police command to protecting lives and property in the state.
The arrest of the suspects is a significant development in the efforts to combat cattle rustling, which has been a major concern in many parts of Nigeria, including Oyo State. The police command has vowed to continue its efforts to protect rural communities and bring perpetrators of crimes to justice.
