Usman Alkali-Baba, former Inspector-General of Police, has entered the race for Yobe State governorship under the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections. He submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms at the APC national headquarters in Abuja yesterday. The forms were accompanied by a payment of N50 million. Alkali-Baba pledged to prioritise security and development in Yobe if elected. He described the state as one that needs urgent attention in both governance and public safety. His campaign message centres on leveraging his law enforcement background to improve local security. Alkali-Baba served as IGP until his retirement in 2023. He did not disclose additional policy details or development plans beyond the focus on security and infrastructure. The APC has not announced its primary election date for the gubernatorial race.
