**Tribute to a Giant: Remembering Comrade Biodun Jeyifo** For three decades, I've had the privilege of knowing Comrade Biodun Jeyifo, a man who left an indelible mark on Nigeria's academic, literary, and labour landscape. I first heard about him as a young journalist, impressed by his radical fight for a more just and equal society. His close friend and comrade, Comrade Edwin Madunagu, was my mentor, and through him, I gained a deeper understanding of BJ's unwavering commitment to the cause. Comrade Jeyifo was a many-faceted individual - a brilliant professor, esteemed author, and passionate labour activist. He had the distinction of being a professor emeritus at Cornell University and Harvard University, a feat that underscores his intellectual prowess. His legacy extends beyond academia, too, as he was a pioneering figure in the Nigerian labour movement, serving as the president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). He was also a key figure in the establishment of the Socialist Library of Nigeria (SOLAR), a groundbreaking initiative that aimed to promote socialist thought and ideals in our country. In January, I had the chance to join comrades, scholars, and admirers at the Agip Recital Hall in Lagos to celebrate Comrade Jeyifo's 80th birthday. The event, hosted by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, was a fitting tribute to his remarkable life. Priyamvada Gopal's lecture on decolonization was a testament to BJ's lifelong interests and struggles. I was grateful to have been a part of it, even if it was just for a brief moment. Unfortunately, it turned out to be his last public outing. In the past, I had the privilege of meeting Comrade Jeyifo on several occasions, but it was clear that this time was different. He was still sharp and ebullient, but his energy was unmistakable. I recalled our previous meetings, where he was more reserved, and I was struck by his resilience and determination. It was a poignant reminder of the enduring impact he had on our country and its people. As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, we must acknowledge the void he leaves behind. Comrade Biodun Jeyifo's legacy is a testament to the power of passion, intellect, and commitment to a better Nigeria. His passing is a loss that we will
