First Lady Advocates Replication Of A’Ibom Elderly Home Across Nigeria
**Naija News: First Lady Tinubu Advocates for Nationwide Replication of Akwa Ibom Elderly Home**
In a recent visit to Akwa Ibom State, the Wife of the President of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to emulate the state's Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, in his efforts to support and care for senior citizens. Senator Tinubu made this call while commissioning an ultra-modern senior citizens' centre named after her in the state.
The First Lady expressed her delight at projects designed to cater for the elderly, and commended Governor Eno for his vision in building a high-quality facility for the elderly. She noted that many senior citizens in Nigeria have become beggars due to ill health and inability to cater for their needs, and recalled her own efforts in supporting senior citizens during her 12 years as a Senator.
Senator Tinubu expressed her appreciation for Governor Eno's commitment to supporting senior citizens in the state, particularly in localizing her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme. She also urged the Senate President to revisit a bill she proposed while at the National Assembly for a law in favour of senior citizens in the country.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, thanked Senator Tinubu for accepting to visit the state and commission the centre, which he described as a vision of his late wife, Pastor Mrs. Patience Eno. The centre, now named the 'Senator Oluremi Tinubu Senior Citizens Centre', is designed to provide a place for relaxation and recreation for senior citizens, and to make them feel younger in spirit and longer.
This initiative by Governor Eno is a testament to his commitment to the welfare of senior citizens in Akwa Ibom State, and his efforts to prioritize their needs. As Senator Tinubu advocates for the replication of this initiative nationwide, it remains to be seen whether other states will follow suit in prioritizing the welfare of their elderly citizens.
