**FG's Road Projects to Unleash Economic Corridors in South-East, Says Umahi** The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding critical roads in the South-East region, as part of efforts to boost economic growth and regional connectivity. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, made this known during an inspection tour of ongoing federal government road projects in Ebonyi State. According to Umahi, the projects are part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's broader infrastructure agenda aimed at rebuilding Nigeria's major transport corridors with durable concrete roads. One of the projects under construction is a strategic highway that will connect with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, creating a continuous route that will significantly improve transportation and economic activities along the southern corridor. The first section of the project spans about 125.5 kilometers, with a contract value of approximately ₦454 billion. The federal government has released 30 percent of the funding, and when completed, the highway will begin from Calabar and pass through several communities in the South-East and South-South regions before linking to other national highways. Umahi described the highway as a strategic corridor designed to link agricultural communities, fishing settlements, and emerging industrial zones across the region. This, he believes, will boost economic activities, create jobs, and improve the standard of living for Nigerians in the region. During the inspection tour, Umahi also reviewed progress on a 1.5-kilometer bridge made up of about 30 spans, each measuring roughly 30 meters. The bridge will be constructed using a sophisticated launching system, providing a safer transportation route for riverine communities that currently rely on water crossings. The Minister commended indigenous contractors for their efforts in delivering the projects on schedule, despite challenges faced during the construction process. This is a welcome development for Nigerians in the South-East, who are eager to see the benefits of these projects, including improved transportation, increased economic activities, and better living standards.
