**Female Passenger Killed, Six Injured in Oworonsoki-Apapa Expressway Accident**
A devastating road traffic accident occurred along the Oworonsoki-Apapa Expressway, claiming the life of a female passenger and leaving six others severely injured. The accident happened at New Castle Bus Stop inward Gbagada, a busy area on the expressway.
Eyewitnesses report that the Volkswagen commercial bus, with registration number LSD 654 XY, lost control and crashed into a roadside culvert. The impact was so severe that it ejected a female passenger from the vehicle onto the road. Unfortunately, an oncoming articulated trailer was unable to avoid her and ran over her, resulting in her instant death.
LASTMA officials swiftly responded to the incident, deploying emergency traffic control measures to prevent further accidents and manage the resulting congestion. They temporarily closed off the expressway to facilitate the evacuation of the deceased, the injured passengers, and the wreckage of the Volkswagen bus.
Six occupants of the bus, including the driver, sustained serious injuries, with some suffering multiple fractures. The driver of the articulated trailer fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving behind a trail of chaos and destruction.
Security personnel from the Pedro Police Division arrived at the scene to provide support for traffic management officials and maintain order during the rescue operation. Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the injured victims to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of road safety in Nigeria. As we continue to grapple with the challenges of our nation's roads, it is crucial that we take necessary measures to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
