Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the demolition and complete reconstruction of the Carter Bridge in Lagos, the government confirmed on Wednesday. Announcing the decision after a cabinet meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the council also approved N5.6 billion to hire specialized engineering consultants for the design and cost assessment of the new bridge. “Carter Bridge can no longer be rehabilitated; it must be taken down and rebuilt entirely,” Umahi stated, adding that the decision follows extensive consultations with stakeholders and had previously received backing from FEC in an earlier session.
