FCT: Kubwa kidnap victims, others rescued after gun duel with bandits
**Breaking News: 20 Kidnap Victims Rescued in FCT Operation** A joint security operation led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has resulted in the rescue of 20 kidnapping victims in Abuja. The operation, which took place between March 6 and 7, 2026, was a collaborative effort between the FCT Police, the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation followed credible intelligence that suspected kidnappers who had fled security operations in Gauraka Forest, Niger state, had moved into the Gidan Dogo and Kweri Forests in Kaduna state with their abducted victims. The kidnappers, who were said to have been on the run, were tracked down by the joint tactical team led by the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The kidnappers, however, opened fire on the operatives, leading to a fierce gun battle that lasted over an hour and thirty minutes. Despite being outnumbered, the security team managed to overpower the kidnappers through superior tactics and firepower. Several suspects were neutralised during the exchange, while two others were arrested. During the operation, 20 victims - 10 males and 10 females - were rescued. The victims were earlier abducted from Byazhin District in the FCT as well as Gauraka and Tafa areas of Niger state. The security operatives also recovered a cache of firearms, including an AK-47 rifle and a locally made firearm, from the suspects. The rescued victims were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention. This operation is a testament to the determination of the security agencies to protect Nigerians from the scourge of kidnapping and banditry. The FCT Police Command is to be commended for their bravery and professionalism in carrying out this operation. As we continue to navigate the challenges of insecurity in our country, it is reassuring to know that our security agencies are working tirelessly to keep us safe. We hope that this operation will serve as a deterrent to those who engage in criminal activities and will bring a measure of comfort to the families of the rescued victims.
