Jesutunmise Emmanuel, a 500-level student at Covenant University, died on Monday during a football training session on campus. He had stepped out of the game after complaining of leg pain and fatigue but later began gasping for breath. Fellow students rushed him to the university's medical centre, where he was pronounced dead. The university's vice-chancellor, Timothy Anake, confirmed the incident, stating that Emmanuel was brought in dead and that medical personnel were unable to revive him. Anake noted that medical reports revealed the student had an undisclosed underlying health condition. The family has called for clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death, as social media users raised concerns over possible medical negligence, including claims that the medical centre lacked oxygen and relied on prayer instead of emergency care.
