The Nigeria Police Force has sent the case file on the killing of Mene Ogidi, a 28-year-old man shot in Effurun, Delta State, to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution. This follows the confirmed dismissal of ASP Nuhu and three other officers implicated in the incident. Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed the development during a press briefing at Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Sunday. He stated that the Police Service Commission had reviewed and ratified the recommendation for dismissal of the officers, with immediate effect. The officers were found culpable following an investigation into the April 26 incident. Placid confirmed that ASP Nuhu and members of his team had arrested Ogidi after a parcel he received from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, was found to contain a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition. Upon arrival at the scene, ASP Nuhu shot Ogidi, who was already apprehended and unarmed, contrary to rules of engagement. Placid said the actions of the officers amounted to professional misconduct, abuse of office, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. The officers involved have been arrested and are in custody. The Force confirmed it is also working to apprehend the driver who delivered the parcel and two vigilante members linked to the incident. "No criminal suspicion, however grave, justifies extra-judicial action. Every suspect is entitled to due process under the law," Placid said. The Force pledged full cooperation with the AGF to ensure the case proceeds to court.
