Eyewitnesses claim that the tension was palpable as suspected bandits were said to have planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on the road, sparking fears of a possible explosion. The Zamfara State Police Command, however, dispelled the fears, assuring motorists that the road was safe. According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the police were the ones who directed commuters to avoid the road until it was thoroughly cleared by IED detectors. Abubakar explained that security personnel conducted an inspection tour to ensure the road was safe for travel.
