Eze Madumere, a seasoned politician and former Deputy Governor of Imo State, has severed ties with the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a resignation letter dated March 17, Madumere cited "deep personal reflection" as the reason for his departure. The move takes immediate effect, according to the letter addressed to the APC chairman of Ezinihitte Ward, Mbiere Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Madumere's decision to leave the party has been described as difficult but necessary. He expressed his desire to "explore new paths" in his political career, while maintaining cordial ties with party members. The former deputy governor, who served under former Governor Rochas Okorocha from 2015 to 2019, did not indicate where he would pitch his political tent.
Madumere's tenure as Deputy Governor was marked by a frosty relationship with Okorocha, which led to impeachment proceedings in 2018. However, the Imo State High Court later nullified the impeachment, ruling that the panel acted outside the constitutional timeframe.
💡 NaijaBuzz TakeEze Madumere's departure from the APC raises questions about his future in Nigerian politics. The former Deputy Governor's decision to leave the party without indicating a new allegiance suggests a deliberate attempt to rebrand himself. This move may be a strategic ploy to reposition himself for future political opportunities.
