Enugu govt insists on valid professional licences for infrastructural projects
**Enugu Govt Stands Firm on Professional Licences for Infrastructure Projects**
In a bid to ensure quality and integrity in infrastructure development, the Enugu State Government has reiterated its commitment to awarding contracts to professionals with valid licences. This decision was made by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ben Okoh, during a recent bid opening session for contractors interested in working on the state's infrastructure projects.
According to the commissioner, only professionals with active and verifiable licences will be recognised in the execution and supervision of projects in the state. This means that contractors and firms participating in the ongoing procurement process must ensure that their engineers and technical officers possess current practising licences issued by relevant regulatory bodies, such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.
In addition, the commissioner has directed that all nominated engineers and technical officers must sign undertakings committing to strict compliance with established engineering and construction standards, including the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation and approved engineering standards. They must also accept full responsibility for the proper supervision, implementation, and execution of projects in line with these standards.
The Enugu State Government is committed to transparency, competitiveness, and compliance with the provisions of the Enugu State Public Procurement Act. The commissioner has assured stakeholders that no bidder will receive preferential treatment, and that the evaluation process will be fair and rigorous.
This move by the Enugu State Government aligns with the Federal Government's efforts to improve the quality of infrastructure development in Nigeria. By insisting on valid professional licences, the government aims to ensure that projects are executed to the highest standards, and that the taxpayers' money is invested wisely.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with infrastructure challenges, the Enugu State Government's commitment to professionalism and integrity in project execution is a welcome development. It is hoped that other states will follow suit, and that this will set a new standard for infrastructure development in the country.
