The Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, has announced the death of his father-in-law, Chief Israel C. Ogbue, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday at the age of 99. Elumelu disclosed this in a statement published on his blog on Saturday, describing the late Ogbue as a foundational figure in his life and career whose absence would be deeply felt. According to him, Ogbue joined the board of UBA Group in 2005 as a Non-Executive Director, the same year Elumelu led the merger between Standard Trust Bank and UBA, a consolidation widely regarded as one of the most transformative banking mergers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
