Shower gel and shampoo were among the unlikely tools used by a group of convicted k!llers to seize control of a high-security prison wing at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire. For around 10 hours in October 2022, eight inmates staged a violent mutiny, refusing to return to their cells after lunch and forcing authorities to deploy an elite national response team to regain control. The prisoners poured oil, shower gel and shampoo across the landing corridor floor, making it too slippery for officers to safely enter.
