Former Labour Party governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, has described the recent attack on African Democratic Congress, ADC, leaders in Benin City, Edo State, as a deliberate attempt to discourage political participation. According to the former NBA President, “the violence sends a dangerous signal that engaging in politics could put citizens at risk”. The attack occurred on Tuesday during Akpata’s formal defection to the ADC, an event attended by former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi.
