**Nigerian U17 Football Tournament Produces Thrilling Champion**
Last weekend, the 7th edition of the ECN/Gwagwalada Coaches U17 Football Tournament came to a close, with ECN Global Academy U17 boys emerging victorious in a closely contested final match against Medical Strikers Feeders. The tournament, held in Gwagwalada, FCT, witnessed a spectacular display of football skills and sportsmanship.
The final match lived up to its billing, with both teams showing off their skills, resilience, and tactical ingenuity. Medical Strikers Feeders dominated the first half, launching series of attacks that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. However, the ECN side's well-organised defensive strategy paid off, repelling wave after wave of attacks and ensuring the first half ended goalless.
The second half saw a reversal in fortunes as the ECN boys came out with renewed determination, taking the game to their opponents and pushing higher up the pitch. Their persistence finally paid off in the 59th minute, when Salisu Abubakar scored a beautiful goal from a corner kick, sending the crowd into wild celebrations.
The lone strike proved decisive as ECN maintained their composure and defensive solidity to see out the game and lift the coveted trophy. The epic final attracted several prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Director of Sports in the FCT, Iyiola Ogundele, and other notable figures in the sports industry.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Patrick Ngwaogu, the Executive Director of ECN Global Ventures Limited, expressed satisfaction with the growth of the competition, assuring that the tournament would continue to improve yearly. He commended the 16 teams that participated and pledged that outstanding talents identified during the competition would receive support to advance their careers in bigger clubs.
In a remarkable display of dominance, ECN Academy clinched four individual awards, including Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal Scorer, Most Valuable Player, and Best Coach of the tournament. Medical Strikers Feeders, despite losing the final, were recognised for their exemplary conduct and awarded the Best Behaved Team of the tournament.
