**Security Clampdown: DSS Nabs Suspect Linked to Peter Obi Attack in Edo State**
A man suspected of orchestrating the brazen attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s rival, the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), in Benin City, Edo State, has been apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS).
On February 24, a group of armed men ambushed Obi and other prominent ADC members who had just concluded a meeting at the party's secretariat. The attackers opened fire, sending shockwaves through the community. The incident was widely condemned by the parties involved and the Edo State government.
Investigations led to the identification of one Udeme Monday Stephen, who allegedly posted threats against Obi on social media. The DSS swung into action, arresting Stephen in connection with the attack.
As tensions run high in the state, Governor Godwin Obaseki has taken a strong stance against violence and thuggery. He described the incident as an internal party crisis that had gotten out of hand and vowed that such acts would not be tolerated in Edo State.
The ADC and its leadership have also spoken out against the violence, saying that it is unacceptable and an affront to democracy. The party's leadership has vowed to stand firm and not be intimidated by such tactics.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragile state of Nigeria's democracy and the need for citizens to remain vigilant and demanding of their rights.
