**Don't Let Politicians Use You to Harass Opponents, IGP Disu is Warned** The Inspector General of Police, Mr Rilwan Tunji Disu, has been cautioned by a human rights group, Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), to resist being used as a tool by politicians to harass their perceived enemies. In a congratulatory letter to Disu, following his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police, SPANCI President, Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello noted that Disu's track record in the past suggests he has the potential to improve professionalism in the police force. However, the group emphasized that he must be careful not to allow himself to be used for partisan purposes. Bello in the letter, which was made available to journalists, urged Disu to safeguard the fundamental human rights of Nigerians, protect their lives and properties, and tackle crimes with the seriousness they deserve. He also stressed the need for the IGP to prioritize the welfare of policemen across the country, ensuring they receive a decent standard of living that would motivate them to deliver quality service. The group advised Disu to uphold the law and respect court orders, discharge his duties without bias, and avoid turning himself into a tool of harassment against perceived enemies of politicians. Instead, Bello urged Disu to protect the laws and constitution of Nigeria. In essence, SPANCI is urging the IGP to maintain a high level of professionalism and impartiality in the discharge of his duties. This, the group believes, will help to restore public trust in the police force and promote a more peaceful and secure environment for Nigerians.
