He believes that Nigeria can learn from Dubai's approach and implement a similar strategy to tackle its own energy crisis. The don is not impressed with the current plans of the Aso Rock Villa to exit the National Electricity Grid and rely solely on solar power. He believes that this will leave the masses to suffer the consequences of persistent power outages. According to him, Nigeria's energy crisis is not unique to the country, as many African nations, including Morocco, South Africa, and Egypt, enjoy steady power supply. Nigeria's energy sector has been plagued by weak infrastructure, gas supply shortages, and financial deficits, resulting in a massive supply-demand gap. The country's power generation capacity is often below 5,000 MW, while the demand is estimated to be over 98,000 MW. This has led to frequent grid collapses and reliance on generators. Haastrup's suggestion is not without merit. AI and smart grids have been proven to be effective in managing energy distribution and reducing power outages. It is an innovative approach that can help Nigeria's energy sector overcome its challenges and provide reliable power supply to its citizens.
