DisCos generated N207b from power bills in December — NERC
**DisCos Collect N207b from Nigerians in December - NERC**
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has released figures showing that the country's 11 electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) collected a total of N207.49 billion from customers in December 2025.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), this amount was collected out of the N258.66 billion that the DisCos billed to consumers during the month. This translates to a revenue shortfall of N51.17 billion, which is equivalent to about 20% of the total amount billed.
The NERC report also revealed that the DisCos received N309.65 billion worth of electricity from the national grid in December, but only N258.66 billion of this was successfully billed to customers. This represents a billing efficiency of 83.53%.
The average revenue realised by the DisCos per kilowatt hour (kWh) was N98.97, which is lower than the allowed average tariff of N124.30 per kWh. This means that the industry's revenue recovery efficiency was only 79.62%.
The report showed that some DisCos performed better than others in terms of revenue collection. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) topped the list, collecting N38.11 billion from the N46.68 billion billed to customers, with a collection efficiency of 81.64%.
The Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company also did well, collecting N36.20 billion and N38.01 billion respectively from the amounts billed to customers.
It's worth noting that the collection efficiency of the DisCos varies across the country. While some DisCos like the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) collected only N18.38 billion from the N21.53 billion billed, others like the Eko Electricity Distribution Company collected up to N38.01 billion from the N41.41 billion billed.
Overall, the NERC report provides a snapshot of the financial performance of the DisCos in December 2025, highlighting areas where they need to improve their billing and collection efficiency.
