Nigeria Customs Service officers from the Federal Operations Unit Zone C, Owerri, intercepted 1,025,000 tramadol capsules and 10,000 bottles of Barcadin Codeine Syrup along the Okada/Ofosu Expressway in Benin, Edo State. The seizure occurred during a routine surveillance operation conducted by the FOU team. The consignment, valued at N1.056 billion, was discovered in a commercial vehicle transporting the illicit drugs. The drugs were concealed in unmarked containers to avoid detection. No arrests were reported in connection with the operation. The customs unit confirmed the seizure and stated that the drugs have been impounded for further investigation. Tramadol and codeine-based syrups are tightly regulated in Nigeria due to widespread abuse and diversion for illicit use. The Nigeria Customs Service has intensified scrutiny at major transit routes as part of broader efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotics.
