**N3.4 Billion Boom: Seme Border Customs Revenue Surges Amidst Agro-Exports**
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cause for celebration at the Seme Border Command as the agency rakes in a whopping N3.4 billion in revenue in less than a month. This remarkable feat can be attributed to the surge in agro-exports, a development that has sent a positive signal to the nation's economy.
The Command's Controller, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, recently addressed stakeholders at a meeting in Badagry, where he revealed that the revenue generated in February 2026 is a significant improvement over the N743.7 million recorded in the same period last year. According to Adenuga, the seamless trade facilitation processes adopted at the Command have contributed to the surge in agro-exports.
The Seme-Krake corridor has witnessed a remarkable improvement in trade flow, with traders and farmers expressing increased confidence in the corridor. The reduction in checkpoints along the Seme-Gbaji axis, to only Agbara and Gbaji, has also contributed to the ease of trade. This collaborative effort between the NCS and other security agencies has led to a noticeable decline in crime rates along the corridor.
Monthly joint border security meetings have strengthened cooperation, improved intelligence sharing, and enhanced responses to security challenges, creating a safer and more enabling environment for cross-border trade. The Command has also recorded enforcement successes, including the interception of a Toyota Highlander conveying 22 packages of cocaine worth over N1 billion.
In addition, the Command seized 1,000 bags of 50kg parboiled rice in February 2026 alone, underscoring its commitment to suppressing smuggling and protecting Nigeria's economic borders. These achievements are a testament to the NCS's efforts to promote legitimate trade and suppress smuggling.
The surge in agro-exports at the Seme Border Command is a welcome development for Nigeria's economy, particularly in the face of the current economic challenges. As the nation continues to explore ways to boost revenue and stimulate economic growth, the success of the Seme Border Command serves as a shining example of what can be achieved through efficient trade facilitation and effective border management.
