Company Plots To Discredit Nigeria Ahead Of Tinubu’s UK Visit – FG
**FG Accuses Company of Plotting to Discredit Nigeria Ahead of Tinubu's UK Visit**
The Nigerian Federal Government has raised an alarm about a company called Jupiter Ltd, which it claims is planning a malicious campaign to discredit the country during President Bola Tinubu's upcoming visit to the United Kingdom. The alleged plot is aimed at undermining the progress made in Nigeria's mining sector and misinforming the international community.
According to officials from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Jupiter Ltd's goal is to discredit the government's efforts to reform the mining sector. The ministry has dismissed claims that Nigeria seized a British lithium project under armed guard as false and misleading. In fact, the government states that it has no legal or contractual relationship with Jupiter Lithium and that Nigerian mining laws do not permit foreign companies to directly hold mineral titles.
The controversy revolves around the revocation of mineral titles belonging to Basin Mining Ltd, a Nigerian company linked to an Australian national, Steve Davis. The government claims that the revocation was due to the company's failure to meet statutory obligations. The ministry has responded to what it describes as a "tissue of falsehoods" sponsored by Jupiter Ltd with a statement titled "In Nigeria's Mining Sector, The Law Is No Respecter of Persons."
The statement exposes the activities of Steve Davis and his associate, Hamish MacDonald, whose mining enterprise ultimately faced the consequences of breaking the law. The government is determined to clear the air and set the record straight about Nigeria's mining sector, particularly ahead of President Tinubu's visit to the UK.
