Cloud service providers ask EU regulator to reinstate VMware partner program
**Cloud Service Providers File Antitrust Complaint Against Broadcom Over VMware Partner Program**
A trade association of cloud service providers (CSPs) has filed an antitrust complaint with the European Union's European Commission (EC) regarding Broadcom's decision to discontinue VMware's CSP partner program. The complaint, filed on the same day, marks the latest development in a series of changes made by Broadcom since its acquisition of VMware.
According to reports, Broadcom has significantly reduced the number of channel partners VMware works with, a shift that began with the elimination of VMware's partner program. The program was replaced with an invite-only alternative that favors larger partners working with enterprise-sized clients over small-to-medium-sized businesses. This change has resulted in a substantial decrease in the number of CSP partners working with VMware.
Prior to Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, the virtualization company had over 4,000 CSP partners, as reported by *The Register* in February 2024. However, as of now, VMware reportedly has only 19 CSP partners in the US and about nine in the United Kingdom, according to *The Register*.
In January, Broadcom terminated VMware's CSP program in Europe, prompting the antitrust complaint filed by the trade association, CISPE. The complaint asks the EC to intervene and prevent Broadcom from killing the program, which is still honoring transactions until March 31. CISPE is urging the EC to impose an interim measure requiring Broadcom to reopen the CSP partner program, reinstate displaced partners, and prevent Broadcom from retaliating against them.
