Bullying: Igbinedion Education Centre expels students Some students of Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City, have been expelled for assault and bullying of a student. The incident happened inside one the classrooms. A viral video showed the victim being flogged, hit on the ground, kicked in the stomach and stamped on the head and rib. In a statement issued on Friday night, management of the Igbinedion Education Centre said the identified students have been expelled. The statement described the video as deeply disturbing and stood in direct violation of the values and standards the institution uphold. It said the school maintained a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment, and any form of violence. According to the statement “Following an immediate investigation, the students responsible have been EXPELLED from the school with immediate effect. Such conduct will never be tolerated within our school community. Related News “Our priority remains the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every student. We are providing support to those affected and are working closely with their families to ensure the matter is addressed with the seriousness it deserves. “The incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities and knowing that the students are minors; the school is cooperating fully. “We thank all our parents and guardians for their co-operation and standing with the school.” Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has the victim to come forward and lay a formal complaint. Its spokesman, Eno Ikoedem, urged the victim and his parents to come forward and lay a formal complaint so that investigation could commence into the matter. “I have seen the video and the only thing I can say for now is that the boy and his parents should come forward and make a complaint so that investigation can begin.”
