Dr Bashir Bolarinwa, a frontline aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, has declared his intention to make combating banditry a top priority if elected governor in 2027. He made the pledge on Saturday in Abuja while submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Mohammed Argungu. Bolarinwa described insecurity as a crisis engulfing Kwara North and Kwara South, with many communities deserted and humanitarian conditions deteriorating due to bandit attacks. He stated that restoring peace, strengthening public safety, and protecting lives and property would be central to his administration's agenda. "The issue of insecurity that has taken over the entire State – the Kwara North, the Kwara South, where I come from – most of the places are now deserted. There are so many humanitarian crisis as a result of bandit attacks. This is one area which must be tackled head-on," he said. Bolarinwa, who formally declared his candidacy on April 28, 2026, in Ilorin, also emphasized improving access to quality healthcare, education, agriculture, and social welfare. He stressed that governance must deliver tangible benefits to citizens and pledged a people-centred administration focused on expanding opportunities and responsive service delivery. Bolarinwa expressed confidence in his bid, stating, "I am not just contesting, I pray and wish that I will be the one that will succeed the incumbent governor Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who has done his bit and who is continuing to do a good work for the state." He was accompanied by executives of the Egbe Omo Igbomina FCT Chapter during the form submission. Bolarinwa's political career includes serving as Councillor and two-term Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, followed by two terms as a member of the House of Representatives. His campaign now moves into the party's internal screening and primary election phase ahead of the 2027 general elections.
