**Body of Benchers Takes Tackling of Lawyer Misconduct to the Next Level** The Body of Benchers, the regulatory body for the legal profession in Nigeria, has taken a bold step in addressing professional misconduct among lawyers. At its annual lecture and presentation of the report of the Disciplinary Committee in Abuja, the Body of Benchers revealed that 17 lawyers have been sanctioned for various acts of misconduct. These sanctions include a suspension of up to five years for some of the erring lawyers. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Oluokoje, expressed his concern over the rising cases of lawyers involved in financial fraud. According to him, over 100 senior lawyers are currently being prosecuted by the EFCC for various financial crimes. The presentation of the 2025 Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee's report highlighted the need for discipline and mentorship among young lawyers.
