**N1.25bn Intervention: Benue Resumes Resettlement of Yelewata Attack Survivors** In a significant move towards recovery, the Benue State Government has initiated the resettlement process of victims displaced by the Yelewata attacks in June 2025. The state received a whopping N1.25 billion in donations from four reputable donors, paving the way for the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes. According to the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Deborah Aber, the funds will cater to the needs of all attack victims in the state, not just those from Yelewata. The Technical Committee for Donations, which she chairs, has made substantial progress in implementing its mandate, achieving over 85 per cent of its objectives. The N1.25 billion donation came from notable sources, including Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Nasarawa State Government, the United Bank for Africa, and the Director-General of the DSS. The funds will be utilized to support various aspects of IDP life, including food, health, shelter, education, livelihood, and water. A breakdown of the allocation reveals that N56 million was set aside for cash transfers, while N224 million will be used for nutrition and food. Additionally, N125 million will go towards water, sanitation, and hygiene, and N56 million for security. Agriculture, health, and education also received allocations, totaling N277 million, N112 million, and N148 million, respectively. In a bid to create a lasting solution for the displaced persons, the committee has developed a model for resettlement that prioritizes the rebuilding of homes near the victims' ancestral locations. This approach aims to enable the survivors to return to their farms and livelihoods, thereby restoring a sense of normalcy to their lives. The Benue State Government has also taken proactive steps to ensure that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries. A comprehensive mapping exercise was conducted to collate data on the IDPs and identify host communities that have been impacted by the displacement. This initiative has enabled the government to provide targeted support to those in need. Furthermore, the committee has made significant progress in providing access to healthcare for IDPs. A total of 5,883 individuals have been enrolled in the Benue State Health Insurance Agency, with each person paying a premium of N10,000.
