**Dark Days Ahead: Benin Region to Suffer 10-Hour Daily Power Outages**
If you live in the Benin region, get ready for some long days without electricity. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled blackout that will last for almost a month. Starting from February 27 to March 31, 2026, residents in certain areas will experience daily power outages that will last for 10 hours.
The power outage is due to ongoing restringing works at the Ihovbor Power Plant Turn-In/Turn-Out Transmission Substation. This project aims to ensure the stability and efficiency of the 330kV transmission line connected to the power plant. The daily outages will occur from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, after which the electricity will be restored until the next day.
The affected areas include UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba, and Ihovbor, all of which are under the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). This means that residents in these areas will have to endure long days without electricity, which can be a significant challenge, especially for those who rely on electric power for their daily activities.
While the TCN assures that the restringing activities will be suspended at 6:00 pm daily, it's understandable that residents are worried about the inconvenience this will cause. After all, who doesn't love having electricity at their fingertips? The TCN has, however, taken steps to ensure public safety, notifying road safety agencies and ensuring that they are on standby throughout the construction period.
In the meantime, residents are advised to make alternative arrangements for their daily needs. This might mean using generators or finding other ways to stay powered up. While this might be an inconvenience, it's a small price to pay for the long-term benefits of a stable and efficient power transmission system.
The TCN has apologized for any inconvenience this may cause and assured that full bulk power supply will be restored to the BEDC upon completion of the project. So, let's all just take a deep breath and get through this challenging period.
