The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has announced a nationwide essay competition for students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The competition aims to promote AI literacy and responsible technology use among students. It also seeks to encourage critical thinking and informed discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in society, with attention to Nigeria's realities.
The competition is part of BBYDI's "AI Literacy for Everyday People in Nigeria" project, supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. Students are required to write an essay on the topic "Artificial Intelligence for Public Good: Balancing Innovation, Human Welfare, and Responsible Governance." The essay must be specific, well-researched, and grounded in Nigeria's realities.
The submission guidelines are as follows: the essay must be between 1,200 and 1,500 words, in English, using Times New Roman font, size 12pt, and double-spaced. Participants may use AI tools to support research and idea development, but the final essay must reflect the writer's own voice, argument, and analysis.
The top three entries will receive cash prizes: N400,000 for the first prize, N300,000 for the second prize, and N200,000 for the third prize. All entries must be submitted on or before 15 April 2026 at 10:00 am WAT. Students can submit their entries through the BBYDI essay competition application form.
