**Bayelsa State Goes All Out Against Illicit Drugs and Crime**
In a bold move to safeguard the lives of its citizens, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has vowed to intensify efforts to clamp down on illicit drug peddlers and criminal activities in the state. Speaking during the 42nd State Security Council meeting in Yenagoa, the governor warned that no stone will be left unturned in the quest to rid the state of shanties where drugs are used to harm vulnerable youths and destroy lives.
The latest crackdown on illicit drugs started last weekend with the demolition of a notorious drug dealers' hideout, Aboki Quarters, at Yenizue-Gene, by a combined team of security agencies in the state. Governor Diri, who gave the directive for the demolition, commended the service commanders for their swift operation and vowed that more demolitions will take place where such locations are identified.
The governor emphasized that his administration will not tolerate any activity that undermines the safety and well-being of the people of Bayelsa State. He warned that the state will continue to monitor any location where illicit drugs are being peddled, stressing that those involved will be brought to justice.
In a related development, Governor Diri also condemned the recent activities of rival cult groups that led to the death of three persons. He directed that the culprits be arrested and brought to justice, reiterating that the state will not condone any form of violence and crime.
The state's commitment to security and youth empowerment was further underscored by the visit of the Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission, Gill Lever, who was in the state to assess a British government program aimed at reducing cultism and illicit drug use at the grassroots. The program, known as Brighter Futures, targets vulnerable young people and equips them with vocational skills to earn a livelihood.
The governor's stance on security and youth empowerment has sent a clear message that Bayelsa State is a place where both indigenes and non-natives can live and do business safely. As the state continues to take bold steps to protect the lives of its citizens, one thing is clear: Bayelsa State is committed to creating a safer and more prosperous future for all its people.
