Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the Allied Peoples Movement. He announced the defection on Saturday following a meeting with political stakeholders to discuss the Supreme Court's judgment on the PDP leadership crisis. The ruling invalidated parallel conventions held by rival PDP factions, leaving the party's Board of Trustees in temporary control. Mohammed said eight days of consultations in Abuja failed to resolve the instability. "After careful consideration and wide consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the country, it has become clear that our efforts to restore stability have not yielded the desired results," he said. He described the APM as a viable, legally sound platform. "We remain PDP at heart. We are leaving not out of bitterness, but out of necessity—to continue the struggle for good governance," he stated. He confirmed that members of the State Executive Council seeking elective office had resigned as required by law. Mohammed outlined transition steps, including forming a compliance committee and starting online membership registration. He also announced engagement with APM leadership and a committee to liaise with INEC. National APM Chairman Yusuf Dantalle welcomed Mohammed, calling the party "clean" and democratic, with principles of integrity, sacrifice, and service. Dantalle said the APM had performed well in recent local elections, winning councillorship seats. He emphasized that the party operates strictly by its constitution and has no internal crisis. The cassava plant, the party symbol, represents resilience, inclusiveness, and economic value, he added. Dantalle presented Mohammed with a membership card and party insignia.
