Seven family members and three other residents were abducted by armed bandits in Unguwar Sabon-Titi along Katari-Hayin Dam in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The attack occurred around 9:32 pm on Thursday when gunmen surrounded a compound and took Jummai Amos, Barnabas Amos, Iko Amos, Baby Amos, Eunice Amos, Eshiwan Amos and Godwin Amos, all from the same family. They then moved to a neighbouring house and abducted Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa and Alfred Iriyo.
A resident, Markus Yakubu, said the bandits operated silently and did not fire shots near the houses, likely because the Katari Divisional Police Officer's residence is nearby. He added that gunfire began only after the victims were taken out of the town. A community leader confirmed the incident and said attempts to contact security operatives failed as their phone lines were unreachable.
Security sources said operatives were searching nearby forests to locate the victims and the abductors. The Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, DSP Hassan Mansur, did not respond to calls or text messages regarding the incident. Neighbours gathered at the affected homes on Friday morning to console the families.
The fact that bandits moved freely near a police officer's residence without immediate response speaks volumes about the erosion of security presence on the ground. DSP Hassan Mansur's silence after the abduction — and the failed attempts to reach local operatives — suggests either a breakdown in communication or a deeper operational failure. When even the homes closest to security outposts are not safe, the illusion of protection in rural Kaduna collapses completely. This incident does not reveal new danger — it confirms an ongoing reality many already live with.
