A distressing incident has been reported in the Sabon Gyero community of Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. In the early hours of Monday, March 16, 2026, bandits stormed the area and carried out a daring attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers targeted a residence in the community, where they abducted three women and four children. The bandits also struck a mobile phone-charging centre, where they shot and killed a young man identified as Abdullahi Lawal, popularly known as "Kurma". Kurma, a deaf-mute, was shot in the head and rushed to a nearby hospital, but sadly, he did not survive.
The attackers made off with several mobile phones and laptops from the centre. The Commandant of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area, Uwaisu Yunusa, confirmed the attack, stating that the task force responded quickly after hearing gunshots, but were unable to catch up with the bandits.
In a twist, one of the abducted women was later released by the bandits due to health complications. This incident is a grim reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing our country, particularly in the North-West region.
The people of Sabon Gyero community are left to grapple with the trauma of this incident, and the Nigerian government must take decisive action to address the root causes of these attacks and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
