**Bandits Foiled in Attack on Security Operatives in Kebbi State**
In a daring move, bandits launched a surprise attack on security operatives along the Maje border road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State. However, the bandits' plan was short-lived as they were met with swift resistance from the security forces.
The attack occurred on February 20, around 9:45 pm, when the bandits allegedly attempted to sneak up on the security operatives under the cover of darkness, using a herd of cattle as a decoy to conceal their approach. However, operatives of the Police Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) were on high alert and were able to engage the attackers, forcing them to retreat.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the encounter, and there were no reported injuries. The temporary security structures in the area were damaged during the scuffle, but security has since been reinforced, and the area remains calm and under control.
The Kebbi Police Command has urged the public, particularly herders and livestock owners, to be cautious and avoid moving cattle at night, as this could be exploited by criminal elements. The Commissioner of Police, Umar Mohammed-Hadeija, has warned that security agencies will take firm and lawful action against any suspicious movement or unlawful activities linked to night grazing.
To prevent similar incidents in the future, the public is encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation. The Kebbi Police Command is committed to protecting lives and property across the state and will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and security.
This recent attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in the country, particularly in the North-West region. However, the swift response of the security forces demonstrates their commitment to protecting citizens and preventing attacks. As we continue to navigate these challenges, it is crucial that we remain vigilant and work together to maintain peace and security in our communities.
