**APC's Unchecked Intimidation: ADC Draws the Line**
As Nigeria continues to navigate its democratic journey, it's becoming increasingly clear that some politicians are willing to stop at nothing to maintain their grip on power. The latest incident is a stark reminder of this reality, and it involves one of the country's most prominent opposition parties, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Just a few days ago, former Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi, his Edo State counterpart, John Oyegun, and Olumide Akpata, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Benin, Edo State. The attack was not an isolated incident, but rather the latest manifestation of a disturbing trend of political intimidation and terror by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against ADC.
The ADC has condemned the attack and warned that it will not be cowed by the APC's tactics. According to Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's National Publicity Secretary, the attack is a clear example of the APC's "dangerous and escalating pattern of political intimidation and terror" against the opposition. He also pointed out that the APC has a history of using inflammatory rhetoric and threats to silence its opponents.
The ADC has vowed to take action against the APC, citing the country's constitution and international laws that protect human rights. The party plans to compile a report on all cases of terrorism and intimidation by the APC against ADC and share it with diplomatic missions and the ECOWAS Court of Human Rights.
In a stern warning, the ADC reminded the APC that Nigeria is not a private estate, and that elected officials have no constitutional authority to threaten or harass law-abiding citizens. The party also emphasized that its members and supporters have the right to freedom of speech, assembly, and self-defense.
As the country heads into elections, the ADC's resilience in the face of intimidation is a testament to the strength of Nigeria's democratic institutions. It remains to be seen whether the APC will take heed of the ADC's warnings or continue down the path of repression. One thing is certain, however: the ADC will not be silenced.
