President Bola Tinubu has declared that the greatest strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) lies not in its size or numbers, but in its unity of purpose. Speaking at the party's 4th elective national convention in Abuja, the President stated that the APC's unity is its greatest strength. He warned that parties fail when ego overrides ideology or when ambition replaces discipline, and that the party must guard against these tendencies at all costs.
Tinubu tasked the party to send a clear message to Nigerians and the world that the APC is strong, united, focused, and ready for the future. He emphasized that the party was founded as a vehicle for national transformation, not just a platform for politicians to win elections. The President also allayed fears of a one-party state, stating that democracy thrives on competition and a credible opposition.
The President highlighted the party's achievements in the last three years, including a decline in inflation and food prices, and the oversubscription of a Eurobond issuance by 400%. He also announced plans to address legacy issues such as electricity supply and debts to power generation companies.
President Tinubu's speech at the APC convention is a clear message to Nigerians that the ruling party is committed to unity and reform. However, the President's emphasis on the party's strength and unity raises questions about the party's willingness to engage with opposition voices. The constant attacks on the Electoral Act 2026 by opposition groups are a disservice to the Nigerian people, and the President's commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of elections is welcome. The party's achievements in the last three years are notable, but the legacy issues of electricity supply and debts to power generation companies remain a challenge. The establishment of the Grid Asset Management Company is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to address these issues.
