The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled a crucial screening process for aspirants vying for national offices, set to take place on Tuesday, March 24. This development comes ahead of the party's National Convention, scheduled to hold from March 25 to March 28, 2026.
The screening exercise will be held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, where only aspirants who have purchased and submitted their Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will be considered. According to Alhaji Isa Yuguda, Secretary of the Aspirants' Screening Committee, all aspirants must appear in person and bring relevant supporting documents for verification.
The APC's national convention is the culmination of a detailed timetable unveiled in December 2025. The process began with membership e-registration on December 1, 2025, and progressed through various stages, including the issuance of notices for congresses and the purchase of forms for ward, local government, state, and zonal positions.
The party has conducted ward, LGA, state, and zonal congresses, as well as hearings for appeals arising from each stage. The screening of aspirants is a critical step in the lead-up to the national convention.
The APC's national convention is a significant event that will shape the party's future direction. The screening process for national office aspirants is a crucial step in ensuring that only qualified candidates participate in the convention. However, the party's decision to hold the screening exercise on short notice raises questions about the transparency and fairness of the process. The Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja is a prime location, but it remains to be seen whether the party has made adequate arrangements for the screening process to run smoothly. The APC's national convention is a critical moment for the party, and Nigerians will be watching closely to see how the process unfolds.
