Progressive Governors Forum Meets, Retains APC Leadership
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to retain the party's leadership at the national level. This decision was reached following a meeting that ended at 01:45 am, during which the governors deliberated on various national issues.
According to Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the PGF, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to principled governance, democratic stability, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The governors also discussed the war in the Persian Gulf region and its implications for Nigeria.
The meeting centred on the President's commitment to addressing the security situation in the country, alongside broader imperatives of economic renewal, social welfare, infrastructure, food systems, and deepening cooperative federalism. The forum welcomed President Tinubu's assurance that he would continue strategic engagement with other countries to strengthen joint collaboration in tackling security challenges and advancing development-related priorities.
The governors appreciated the President's openness, clarity of purpose, and commitment to building a stronger Federation. The meeting served as a platform for policy alignment, institutional reflection, and renewed solidarity around the ideals of progressive governance.
The Progressive Governors Forum's decision to retain the APC leadership at the national level raises questions about the party's willingness to adapt to changing circumstances. By sticking to the status quo, the party may be missing an opportunity to inject fresh ideas and perspectives into its leadership. This decision has significant implications for the party's ability to address the country's pressing issues, including the security situation and economic challenges. The Renewed Hope Agenda, which the governors have committed to, must be translated into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians. The President's commitment to building a stronger Federation is commendable, but it remains to be seen whether this vision will be achieved through concrete policies and actions.
