**APC Congress: A Breath of Fresh Air in Ondo State**
In a rare display of unity and discipline, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State held a peaceful Local Government (LG) congress across the 18 council areas of the state. The exercise, which saw a high turnout of delegates and party faithful, was carried out calmly under the supervision of party officials and electoral committees.
This is a welcome change from the ward congress held last week, which was marred by violence in some areas. The contrast is a testament to the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who has been working tirelessly to promote peace and unity within the party.
In many LGAs, the congress was an affirmative exercise, with party members and stakeholders unanimously agreeing in support of the executives through a consensus arrangement. This approach ensured that the process was smooth and efficient, with no room for disputes or litigations.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Bosede Osamaye, praised the exercise, describing it as peaceful and transparent. According to her, the delegates turned out early to participate in the exercise and decided to adopt a consensus arrangement. She attributed the smooth conduct of the exercise to the good leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa, expressing confidence that the outcome would not generate petitions or litigation.
In Akure South LGA, the Chairman, Gbenga Fasua, noted that the turnout was impressive, and the process complied strictly with party guidelines. Similarly, party stalwart Olumide Obadele described the exercise as hitch-free, adding that the party had mechanisms in place to resolve any grievances.
The peaceful conduct of the congress is a positive development for the APC in Ondo State. It shows that the party is capable of conducting its affairs in a peaceful and orderly manner, which is essential for its growth and success. As the party looks to the future, this exercise is a promising start, and we hope that it will set a precedent for future congresses.
